new york memories: a post by karen g.

I was feeling a little nostalgic on this September 11th, and decided to look back at some of New York’s happier moments…

Who could forget the 1986 NY Mets and their hilarious music video “Let’s Go Mets Go"

Unforgettably funny scenes from the Plaza Hotel (Crocodile Dundee – 1986)

A beautiful song in Central Park from a diva in 1983

Original 80s Broadway cast of Cats

The 1984 Rockettes show the world their best assets!

Frank rocks Carnegie Hall in 1980

A magical moment between greats, Minnelli and Baryshnikov in 1980

And finally some ad jingles and campaigns from the late 70s and 80s…

  1. Great post, as always! Whenever there's a prolonged rain delay at Citi Field, the one aspect I always look forward to is the 1986 retrospective being shown. Equal parts both the city and the team reflected one another and it must've been quite the experience for those Mets fans who lived through it all firsthand.

As for Crocodile Dundee, the first time I saw it was New Year's Eve - the 11:30 pm screening - at the Assembly Square Mall Cinemas in my hometown. It's as much of a film time capsule of NYC in the '80s as After Hours or Desperately Seeking Susan - and another of my all-time favorites.
